The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspected serial land fraudster, Nwobo Williams Chibuike, for allegedly defrauding several unsuspecting individuals by selling fictitious plots of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Chibuike, who operated under multiple aliases and registered fake real estate companies, including C&C Reality & Construction Limited, Dream-Krest Homes and Properties Limited, and Dan Faith Shelters Limited, reportedly posed as a genuine developer with lands for sale across various districts.
High-Profile Land Scam
In a statement released on Wednesday, the EFCC said its investigations uncovered that Chibuike offered non-existent plots in areas such as Kurudu, Sabon Lugbe East Extension, Kpeyegyi, and Jikoyi Village Extension, falsely claiming to possess legitimate ownership of the properties.
However, verification from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) confirmed that the plots do not exist, pointing to a well-coordinated scam targeting property seekers in Abuja.
“He posed as the Managing Director of these fictitious firms, presenting forged documents and fake assurances to convince his victims,” the EFCC stated.
Victims of the fraudulent scheme allegedly paid between ₦3.5 million and ₦60 million for these phantom properties, with locations listed in high-demand areas such as Karsana, Pyakasa, Jikwoyi, Katampe Extension, Guzape 2, and Kuje.
EFCC’s Public Advisory
The EFCC confirmed that Chibuike will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
In response to the rising cases of real estate fraud in Abuja and other parts of the country, the anti-graft agency issued a stern warning to the public.
“We urge residents and prospective land buyers to exercise extreme caution when dealing with land vendors—especially itinerant agents. Always verify land titles and documentation with the appropriate authorities before making any payments,” the Commission advised.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to clamping down on fraudulent real estate practices and ensuring that perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
