The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced the arrest of individuals posing as scavengers while engaging in vandalism of Abuja’s infrastructure under the cover of night.
During an inspection of ongoing works on the 5-kilometre Saburi-Dei Dei road, Wike emphasized that safeguarding infrastructure and ensuring public safety is a central aspect of governance. “Providing infrastructure, security, and quality education, while maintaining transparency, are all components of inclusive governance,” Wike stated.
Highlighting recent enforcement measures, Wike noted, “We have significantly reduced the level of damage caused by these scavengers. Several individuals have been apprehended and prosecuted.

We now have a dedicated task force that patrols at night, comprising members from all security agencies, to ensure that those causing harm under the guise of begging or scavenging are dealt with accordingly.”
Regarding the Saburi-Dei Dei road project, Wike confirmed the contractor’s commitment to completing the road by December, except for an additional bridge that was added to the plan after seasonal flooding. “The bridge will take an extra two months, but the road itself is on track for a December completion,” he said.
