The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has partnered with State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) and key development organizations to comprehensively assess the 2024 flood impacts across Nigeria.
In an announcement on its official X account on Wednesday, NEMA stated that this joint assessment aims to harmonize data gathered by NEMA’s Emergency Operation Centre with information from partner agencies, creating a unified report on the disaster’s effects.
Zubaida Umar, NEMA’s Director General, emphasized that the agency is working closely with SEMAs, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the International Organization for Migration, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. “The assessment will evaluate the flood’s impact on communities, covering areas like shelter, livelihoods, food security, water sanitation, hygiene, and access to education and information,” Umar explained.

In line with best practices, the assessment will also encourage flood-affected communities to contribute feedback on the support needed for effective recovery.
