Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the sluggish progress of various projects in the state, particularly the ongoing construction of the Ezillo-Ezzagu Road in Ishielu Local Government Area.
Speaking through his deputy, Princess Patricia Obila, during an inspection of the project, Nwifuru criticized Ontime Venia Nigeria Company Limited for its lack of commitment and slow pace of work.
The governor stressed the strategic importance of the road, which links numerous communities in the state, and warned that any contractor failing to meet deadlines would face serious consequences.
“This road is vital to us, connecting several communities and enhancing commercial activities. Unfortunately, the contractor is moving at a pace that is unacceptable. The community has the right to hold you accountable if you don’t deliver on time,” the governor said.
Nwifuru, who revealed that all project payments had been fully made, threatened to arrest and prosecute contractors who fail to meet the agreed timelines.

Chris Anene, the managing director of Ontime Venia Nigeria Company Limited, acknowledged the slow pace of work, attributing it to unfavorable weather conditions. He noted that only two kilometers out of the 23-kilometer road have been completed so far.
“The weather has been a significant challenge, with rain disrupting our work schedule. But whenever we get clear skies, we push ahead. We’ve been on-site for about four months now,” Anene explained.

In a related development, Governor Nwifuru has ordered the immediate arrest of contractors handling the housing scheme projects at Amanze and Izzo communities. The contractors, who failed to deliver on their contracts, are now facing legal action as the state government pushes for faster progress in its developmental projects.
This move underscores the administration’s commitment to delivering timely infrastructure, a priority that Nwifuru has consistently emphasized since assuming office.
