An 86-year-old man sustained injuries in a fire incident that engulfed a residential building in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Saturday.
The fire, which started around noon, affected one room in the 12-room building located at Afolayan Street.
According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, the octogenarian was cooking when he stepped out briefly, only to return to find his apartment ablaze.
In a state of distress, he re-entered the burning apartment, possibly to retrieve belongings, and suffered injuries, including burns to the hair on his head. He was promptly taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to one room, preventing further damage to adjacent buildings. Prince Falade John, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness and urged the public to remain vigilant.
This incident highlights the need for residents to take fire safety precautions seriously to prevent such occurrences.
