Workers of the Osogbo Transmission Company in Osun State have joined the two-day warning strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in protest against the removal of fuel subsidy.
The workers, who are members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), said they joined the strike in compliance with the directive of the NLC.
The Vice President West of NUEE, Comrade Sodiq Adewale, told journalists that the workers had locked the gates of the transmission company and were not allowing anyone in or out.
He said, “We are part of the strike and we are critical stakeholders as far as NLC is concerned. We have total compliance with the directive to down tools.
“So far, nobody is saying there is going to be a disruption of power, but our men are out. We are not tampering with anything.
“We are concerned about the negative impacts of the removal of fuel subsidy on the economy. We are calling on the government to fast-track the implementation of palliatives to alleviate the suffering of the masses.”
The strike is expected to end on Wednesday, September 6th.
