In a bid to promote transparency and openness, the Court of Appeal has announced that the judgment on several presidential election petitions will be televised live. The proceedings, which are scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2023, will be open to broadcast by interested television stations.
The Court of Appeal Registrar, Umar Bangari, confirmed this information in a statement to Channels Television on Monday. He listed the petitions that will be covered in the live broadcast, including the cases of Mr. Peter Gregory Obi & Anor versus the Independent National Electoral Commission & 3 Ors, as well as the case of Allied Peoples Movement versus the Independent National Electoral Commission & 4 Ors.
Also on the docket is the case of Abubakar Atiku & Anor versus the Independent National Electoral Commission & 2 Ors. These judgments hold significant importance in the presidential election process and are eagerly anticipated by the public.
While the live broadcast aims to promote transparency, access to the court premises will be restricted to accredited individuals. Only those with proper accreditation, including counsel and representatives of political parties, will be granted entry to the courtroom.
