Operators in the real estate industry have urged investors to avoid engaging quacks for construction services.
The Chief Executive Officer of Pelican Valley Nigeria Limited, Dr Babatunde Adeyemo, advised investors in the real estate industry, particularly Nigerians in the diaspora, to avoid quacks when seeking building approval or other related services from the government.
Adeyemo stated that quacks usually use fake documents to obtain the government’s approval, noting that engaging non-professionals could have an adverse impact on other occupants in the community and land owners.
The real estate practitioner commended the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development for aiding the firm to acquire building approvals within seven days.
He said, “Getting building approval is not so difficult. We have been processing building approval with the right documents in the space of seven days with the support of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. We will continue to uphold town planning rules. I urge our clients to do the same.”
In the same vein, the Secretary, the Nigerian Institute of Building, Abiodun Ogundare, cautioned prospective house owners to be weary of fraudulent people who clone building approvals.
He said, “Approvals are now being generated fraudulently, and once this is done you encounter several challenges like unmatched approval numbers with the number types stipulated and not in alignment with any approval file. Also, when you engage a quack, such a developer may end up not getting any documents to the land.
“The best thing for any developer wanting to do approval is to consult professionals in the built industry.”
