Household properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the early hours of Sunday when a residential building along Atufe Road by Major Bowen Junction, Sapele, Delta State‘s headquarters, was razed.
PUNCH Metro, however, learned that the cause of the fire had yet to be determined at the time of filing this report.
According to witnesses, the structure was 80 percent destroyed before Delta State Fire Service firefighters came to put out the fire.
It was learned that the distressed citizens were unable to contact State Fire Service officials until extensive damage had been done.
However, operatives of Seplat Fire Service, an oil firm in Sapele, were said to have later responded to distress calls from well-meaning people in the community.
It was gathered that the Seplat Fire Service officials eventually succeeded in putting out the raging fire.
The Police Public Relations Officer from Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident, as of the time of filing this report.
