Breaking: Gov Tambuwal declares curfew in Sokoto as Tension rises over Deborah’s murder suspect release.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal has ordered a curfew in Sokoto to prevent additional bloodshed in the wake of a crowd riot demanding the release of Deborah Samuel’s murder suspects.
The governor said that the instruction was given “in the interest of maintaining peace and order in the Sokoto metropolis and across the state.”
On Saturday, violent outbursts were reported around Sokoto, amid rallies calling for the release of those responsible for the assassination of Ms Samuel on Thursday.
Ms Samuel, a Shehu Shagari College of Education 200-level home economics student, was slain about 9:00 a.m. for reportedly criticizing Prophet Muhammad.
Her assassination has generated indignation throughout the country, with political and religious leaders calling for the immediate arrest and conviction of all suspects.
