On Thursday, tragedy struck as 32 people lost their lives across Benue, Plateau, and Oyo States, following armed attacks in North Central Nigeria and a building collapse in Oyo State.
In Benue State, 15 individuals were killed when armed assailants attacked multiple villages in the Logo Local Government Area. The attacks, which reportedly started on Wednesday and continued into Thursday morning, left several people injured and many others missing.
Residents reported that the heavily armed assailants attacked Anyiin town, the headquarters of Logo LGA, at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Chief Joseph Anawah, a local community leader, shared that victims included a retired primary school supervisor and family members of prominent local figures. Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene confirmed the incident but noted that further details were still forthcoming.

In Plateau State, four people were killed in a clash between bandits and a local vigilante group in the Dogon Ruwa community of Wase Local Government Area. According to Abdullahi Shu’aibu, a vigilante and youth leader, the bandits had targeted the community for kidnappings but were ambushed by vigilant locals who intercepted them near their motorcycles. During the confrontation, three bandits and one vigilante lost their lives.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, has yet to provide an official statement.
Meanwhile, in Oyo State, a tragic building collapse claimed the lives of 13 people in Ibadan’s Jegede, Olunloyo area. The incident, during a heavy rainstorm, trapped multiple individuals within the building.
The Oyo State Fire Service, led by General Manager Akinyemi Akinyinka, received a distress call around 2 a.m. on Thursday. Local officials confirmed that the building was not intended for residential use, and three individuals succumbed to injuries while receiving hospital treatment.
In response to the tragedy, Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, announced that Governor Seyi Makinde has approved amnesty building integrity assessments across the state.
