A 21-year-old resident of Yelwa, Bauchi State, Dauda Sa’idu, has been arrested by police for trespassing, vandalism, and theft after admitting to destroying graves to fund his purchase of Indian hemp and food items.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, Sa’idu unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area during daylight, damaging several graves and removing iron rods.
Wakil stated, “Following interrogation, Saidu confessed to stealing multiple iron rods and selling them to scrap metal buyers in separate transactions, amounting to N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500.”

The police report revealed that Sa’idu used the proceeds from these sales to buy an undisclosed quantity of Indian hemp and food for personal consumption.
In light of these events, Commissioner of Police Auwal Muhammad has directed that Sa’idu be prosecuted once the investigation concludes. Wakil also urged parents and guardians to take an active role in monitoring their children and wards to prevent such criminal activities.
